Volunteer FAQs

Here you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions about the volunteer program for EuroSkills Düsseldorf 2027.

Registration & Requirements

When can I register as a volunteer?

The application phase for the Volunteer Programme starts in September 2026 and is expected to run until spring 2027. Applying early increases your chances of getting your preferred area of assignment.

How can I register as a volunteer?

You can easily register via our Volunteer Portal. First, create a user account and then complete the application form. We ask for various details to make sure we can assign you a suitable volunteer role. After successfully registering, you will receive an automatic confirmation by email.

What are the requirements to take part in the Volunteer Programme?

As a volunteer, you must:

  1. – be at least 16 years old on 1 September 2027
  2. – provide parental/guardian consent if you are under 18
  3. – speak German and/or English
  4. – be available for at least three days of volunteering
  5. – be motivated to become part of an international team

I am not a German citizen – can I still apply?

Yes! We are particularly happy to receive applications from all across Europe. However, people of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they meet the entry and residence requirements for Germany. Any necessary visas or other entry documents must be applied for independently.

Can I participate as a corporate volunteer group from my company?

Yes, we are happy to welcome companies that would like to offer their employees a corporate volunteering experience. Please contact our Volunteer Team directly at volunteer@euroskills.com so that we can discuss the possibilities together.

Can I apply as part of a group or together with friends?

Yes and no – each person must register individually, and unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that you will be assigned together. If you select the same areas of interest and days of availability in the application form, you have a better chance of being assigned together. We will try to take these preferences into account whenever possible.

Selection Process

What happens after I submit my application?

After you submit your application, we will review your information and match it with the requirements of the different volunteer roles. Depending on the area of assignment, we may invite you to a short interview.

We will inform you about the next steps by email. You will receive confirmation of whether you have been selected and, if so, for which area of assignment in spring 2027.

How are volunteers selected?

When selecting volunteers, we consider factors such as your availability, language skills, interests and the requirements of the respective areas of assignment. Our aim is to assign each person to an area where they can best contribute their strengths and where the time commitment is a good fit.

When will I find out if I have been selected?

Selection confirmations will be sent out gradually from May 2027 onwards. As assignments are planned step by step, some applicants may receive feedback earlier than others.

Volunteering at EuroSkills Düsseldorf 2027

Why should I volunteer at EuroSkills 2027?

As a volunteer, you will be part of Europe’s largest competition for vocational excellence and play an active role in making the event a success. At the same time, you will gain valuable experience, meet people from across Europe and get exclusive behind-the-scenes insights into an international major event.

How many days do I need to be available?

In general, you should be available for at least three days of volunteering. The more flexible your availability, the better we can take you into account when planning assignments. We need volunteers not only during the Skills Competition, but also before and after the event.

Will accommodation be provided?

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide accommodation. However, we will be happy to provide information about discounted accommodation options and partner offers.

Is volunteering a paid activity?

Volunteering is an unpaid activity. However, as a thank you, you will receive a range of benefits, including meals and refreshments during your shifts, volunteer clothing, training, an official participation certificate and many unforgettable experiences.

What benefits do I receive as a volunteer?

As a volunteer, you will receive, among other things:

  • – volunteer clothing
  • – Meals during your shifts, training sessions, and preparation time

Can I choose my area of assignment?

Yes! During the application process, you can indicate which areas of assignment you are particularly interested in. We will do our best to take your preferences into account when planning assignments. However, as assignments depend on various factors such as availability, qualifications and operational needs, we cannot guarantee your preferred area of assignment.

Can I change my application or availability at a later stage?

Yes. As long as the application phase is open, you can update your personal details and availability at any time via the Volunteer Portal. If your availability changes after you have been selected, please inform the Volunteer Team as early as possible so that we can adjust your assignment accordingly.
